Prune trees and scrubs of dead limb and leaves. Trim branches that could break off and become airborne and hit your home or other structures
Strengthen Arbors and terrace structures against high winds and flooding
Clean ditches and grade areas for drainage
Stock products to resuscitate plants
Reduce the size of shrubs, this reduces the likelihood of being blown over. Stake if necessary
Remove flowers heads that can hold a lot of water and increase wind resistance
Harvest any items that are mature enough to be picked
Remove plants from benches and take down hanging baskets
Lay large plants in a hedge (preferably at the base of a large hedge) or side of a wall. When possible place the base toward the wind.
Clean drainage channels Protect topsoil with sandbags or blocks
Remove all objects that may become airborne
Take cuttings immediately after the storm, place in a plastic bag and keep moist for possible replanting
